How to connect Kilo Code to CheapTokens
Set up the OpenAI Compatible provider in Kilo Code with the CheapTokens base URL, key and model ID, then check that the agent answers.

On this page
Kilo Code is an AI coding agent for VS Code that works with any OpenAI-compatible API. Connecting it to CheapTokens takes four fields: provider, base URL, key and model ID. The steps follow Kilo Code's provider settings as of October 2026; they have not been run on a live installation yet.
Before you start#
- Kilo Code is installed in your editor.
- You have a CheapTokens API key and a positive balance — see Your first API request.
Step 1. Provider, address and key#
Open Kilo Code settings and fill in:
Scroll the table right →
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| API Provider | OpenAI Compatible |
| Base URL | https:/ |
| API Key | your CheapTokens key |
The address must end with /v1.
Step 2. Model and its limits#
In Model ID enter the full ID, for example deepseek-. If Kilo Code asks for the model's limits, take them from GET https:/:
Scroll the table right →
| Model | Context window | Max output tokens |
|---|---|---|
deepseek- |
380000 | 32768 |
zai- |
390000 | 8192 |
MiniMaxAI/ |
200000 | 8192 |
All three accept text only, so leave image support off. Which one to pick: GLM vs DeepSeek vs MiniMax.
Step 3. Check that it works#
Start a new task with a short request. An answer means the setup is done. Kilo Code's modes and orchestration run on your machine and call the same endpoint, so they keep working. Errors by status code: Connection errors and fixes.
Kilo Code is a close relative of Cline, and the Cline guide shows the same kind of settings with screenshots: Connecting Cline.
